Performing Hope for Nature and Climate in the City
Filmed for Climate Basecamp during London Climate Action Week 2024
At Bermondsey Beach, the banks of the River Thames became a stage for Performing Hope for Nature and Climate in the City—a breathtaking ballet performance produced as a call to action during London Climate Action Week 2024. This powerful event, part of Climate Basecamp’s Performing Hope campaign, urged audiences to embrace hope as an active force in addressing the climate crisis, using the performing arts to inspire catharsis, reduce anxiety, and galvanize collective action.
The performance, titled “I think we’re on different planets,” was choreographed by Daniel Davidson, with music by Elliott Park and vocals by Fabiana Palladino. It featured some of the UK’s most talented young ballet dancers, students from the Central School of Ballet, who embodied the spirit of the Thames and the fragility of our natural world.
Crowsnest Films was proud to capture this momentous event. Carney directed the shoot, utilizing both land and aerial cameras, including drone footage along the river—a complex endeavor made possible through collaboration with the Port of London Authority, Southwark Council, and the London Metropolitan Police. Fleur ensured seamless pre-production, working closely with the Climate Basecamp team, while Jeremy Gildersleve provided on-site camera and edit support, enabling the footage to reach global media.
Set against the backdrop of a sweltering London day, the performance marked the second chapter of the Performing Hope campaign, following its debut in Davos 2024 with Performing Hope for the Glaciers. Through art and movement, the event reminded us that hope is not passive—it is a choice we perform together.
