Tucked away in the heart of Brighton’s vibrant Kemptown village, Kemptown Bookshop is a beloved sanctuary where stories, art, and community intertwine. Behind its classic storefront lies three floors of literary wonder, serving as a peaceful retreat for book lovers, writers, and curious wanderers alike.
Author and owner Cathy Hayward welcomed us inside to explore the beautifully curated shop, which also happens to serve fantastic coffee and cakes at the newly-refurbished cafe.
Established 50 years ago, the Times has declared it “one of the UK’s best independent bookshops” and we can see why. Managed by poet Salomée Lou, the shop is host to events such as the 5am writing club, where local writers convene to compose as the sun comes up on the first Wednesday of every month.
