Performing Hope at Davos

In the heart of the Swiss Alps, art became a beacon of hope at the 2024 World Economic Forum in Davos. Crows Nest Films was there to capture the moment: cellist Nicolas Altstaedt performed “Hope for the Glaciers”, his music echoing across the icy peaks. Ballet dancers Lara Delfino and Damián Torío then took the stage, their performance of “one and others”—choreographed by Demis Volpi to Christos HatzisThe Awakening—moving audiences to tears.
This powerful collaboration, titled “Performing Hope”, was more than a performance. It was a call to action, a reminder that hope is not passive—it’s something we create through small, everyday acts. As Gail Whiteman, founder of Arctic Basecamp, put it: “Hope is an action. It’s the little things we do, not knowing if they make a difference, but doing them anyway.”

Crows Nest Films joined forces with Ed Henderson, Rich Wynne, and a team of scientists, braving -10°C temperatures to bring this story to life. Our film, shot on location and edited by Luke Deverill, carries the message of hope and urgency to a global audience.

Arctic Basecamp, founded by Professor Gail Whiteman, is a movement that brings the Arctic’s critical story to world leaders. Through immersive storytelling and bold action, they challenge us all to respond to the climate crisis with courage and creativity.

This film is a testament to the power of art and science united, inspiring action, one frame at a time.
