The Man Who Invented The 60s

We owe John Hoppy Hopkins a lot.

This profoundly talented, wild and determined man made the Sixties swing.  Hoppy studied Physics and Mathematics at Cambridge, but when he was given a camera at his graduation in 1957 his life changed.  This transformation was perpetuated throughout London's burgeoning underground arts scene.  The journalist, researcher, political activist and, most famously, photographer created and documented Sixties counterculture and was a pioneer of independent video in the UK.

Carney enjoyed the privilege of filming with Hoppy several times

before his death in January 2015.  Malcolm Boyle and Carl Stickley were approached by Hoppy to film a full biographical interview with him.  The interviews conducted with Hoppy and his contemporaries yielded fascinating, funny and shocking stories about the Sixties underground scene and alternative culture, inspiring their forthcoming film Hoppy - Underground Head.  Understandably the film has already attracted a lot of attention and Carl and Malcolm were invited by the V&A to speak about it at the launch of their You Say You Want A Revolution exhibition earlier this year.

We are unspeakably proud to be part of this project and today we're in London filming Craig Sams about his friendship with Hoppy and the adventures they shared.

2017 will be the 50th anniversary of the Summer Of Love, the 14 Hour Technicolour Dream and would have marked Hoppy's 80th birthday.  It will also see the release of Hoppy - Underground Head.  You can watch a preview here and if you'd like to contribute to the crowdfunding you'll be in exquisite company, you can do that here.
