Carney's been in South Africa with Darius Rucker.
Kip Moore, Zac Brown Band headlined the inaugural Cape Town Country Festival in South Africa. CTC '24 was a MASSIVE success with more than 60 000 people attending the three concerts. It was the biggest country festival ever to take place outside of the US.
Wimpie van der Sandt of Heroes Events, who is also a DJ at BOK Radio, produced the two-day Cape Town Country Festival and Carney was there with our favourite country boy, Darius Rucker.
“The success we had last year with Kip Moore in South Africa proved there’s a vibrant and healthy country music scene over here. People in the music industry were sceptical when we explored the market, but we proved the concept and that gave us confidence to build the biggest country festival in the world outside the US,” van der Sandt says.
The boys gigged all over the country with a night at Loftus in Pretoria and another more intimate gig in Cape Town before C2C. They also managed to take in a little safari and play a quick 18 holes at De Zalze Golf Club with with rugby legend Duane Vermeulen. A quick hike up Table Mountain worked up a thirst quenched by wine tasting.
The lineup highlighted American musicians including Darius Rucker, Brothers Osborne, Cam, James Johnston, Morgan Wade and Craig Morgan, as well as 10 local South African artists including Ricus Nel, Riaan Benade, Demi-Lee Moore, Juan Boucher, Appel, Ruhan du Toit, Brendan Peyper, Ivan Roux, West and Cheree. Additionally, Roan Ash, who moved to Nashville in 2022, returned to his hometown for the inaugural festival.
