Our crew are back from the US of A.
With 2 shoots cut short this week we were thrilled to get Malcolm and Matt back on home turf this morning. The pair flew out to the Big Apple last weekend to continue shooting on People In A Film and a little bromance was born in Brooklyn.
Crows Nest Films has been honoured to be the shooting team on People In A Film - a feature documentary about the art rock band. This week was to see the start of Wire's North American tour, and it got off to a rocking start.
Malcolm and Matt filmed the band performing at Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn. Wire greeted the crowd with the words “Good evening. Thanks for turning out. Fortune favours the bold. Keep strong. Keep healthy, huh?”. The following morning the band announced on their Facebook page "Massachusetts has now cancelled all public gatherings of over 250 people so unfortunately tonight’s show at the Sinclair, Cambridge is now off."
Happily Matt and Malcolm had Mike Thorne to meet: a classically-trained musician whose career as A&R (Artist and Repertoire) Man and producer of such notable musicians as Soft Cell, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Til Tuesday, Soft Machine, Bronski Beat / the Communards, Lene Lovich and John Cale (to name but a few). Beginning in the mid-1970s, his talent cultivation for EMI Records resulted in bringing musicians such as the Sex Pistols, Kate Bush, and subsequently, Wire – several of whose albums Mike also produced – to that label.
Later on Friday 13th of March, Wire announced that the remainder of their gigs would also be cancelled:
"Unfortunately we have now had to cancel our remaining N American dates..
In over 40 years of existence we’ve pretty much never pulled a gig let alone not finish a tour but circumstances are against us and we’ve been left with a set of diminishing options. Unfortunately, the following shows are cancelled.
March 13 Boston, MA Sinclair
March 14 Ottawa, ON Bronson Centre
March 16 Toronto, ON The Great Hall
March 17 Austin, TX Barracuda
March 18 Austin, TX Hotel Vegas
We are also sure people would much rather see us under happier circumstances and we will make sure that we take the opportunity to revisit the places we have missed this time when we all get to the other side of the current crisis.
Be safe. Wire"
New York was eerily quiet. And as travel restrictions were understandably tightened a decision was made to bring the boys home early. They came through an empty J.F.K. late last night and tood the red eye back to London.
